International Dinner...

Last night I had a full house for the first time since I have been here. Three of the Fulbright researchers came over to my house as well as the headmistresses son, Akordy. We all had dinner together and talked about a variety of topics. Akordy, prepared traditional Ghanaian fried rice (which was excellent) and I made a simple salad (Ghanaians don’t really eat salad, so although simple, really hit the spot, at least for me). It was a neat experience to be sitting in my house in Ghana, West Africa talking with 3 Americans from all over the US, all researching fascinating and different topics here in Ghana, and a Ghanaian who has had the opportunity to travel to the US. We talked about politics (US and Ghanaian), cultural differences, economics, the bailout plan (the little we know about it), and of course, food. It was a fun evening. I am still not sure that I have fully grasped the fact that I am in Africa! It still seems surrealistic at times. Regardless, I am enjoying it and I hope to share as much with the Ghana as it has with me.

Mr. Coryell!!!!!! Hey!!!!!! How is Ghana? I hope all is well.... the new teacher seems nice, but I haven't really talked to her. Anyway, I will update you on some info from SHG: Mr. Sanders is still crazy, however the new study hall system seems to be a big hit.. library has been promoted from Nazi status to a much higher level because there have been SO many complaints from students.. oh and there have been a TON of sport related injuries happening. Dillon Thomas, Ryan Crabtree, OD, and some random freshman are all on crutches, 3 kids have shoulder injuries, including me! I had surgery on my shoulder August 28th, and my physical therapist Leah Boente-Hulcher (yes Zach's mom, no not related to Jordan) said that she thinks my surgeon might have damaged the auxiliary nerve in my shoulder... yikes! My arm still doesn't work and to top it off Coach C, along with all of my teachers besides Mrs. Wilcox, have asked me if I'm faking it.... LOVE LIFE! That really sucks on my end.. it's like, my PT has told everyone that I can't use my arm.. well I can but she just doesn't want me to...and they're still asking about it. Sooo gay. The boys soccer team just won part of the regionals last night against Jacksonville 6-1. It was insane. The next game is on Friday and they play Chatham, who we won 3-2 on Senior Night. But it should still be a good game. After that comes the sectional against Southeast which should be a breeze, and then probably a Decatur or Champaign team, but we aren't sure... I'll let you know once I have the deets (details). As far as football goes, we have been on a winning streak ever since we lost to Montini in the first game of the season. The game against Springfield was last Saturday and there was SOOO much hype around it because we were 7-1 and Springfield was 7-0, but of course we slaughtered them. They all talked so much smack too. We won 48-0. What a blow out. The girl's city swimming championship is tonight, but I dont really care that much about swimming so I probably won't keep you updated on th at one....sorry. Cross country is doing pretty well, although Madz Negro was out for the first portion of the season due to mono. She's back and in action though and the top 10 runners were all conference as of last Saturday I believe. The state meet is the same weekend as the state soccer tournament (Nov. 6,7,8) which that should be pretty fun, but of course I'll be at soccer. As for me, I've been pretty well, I'm still dating Josh, and I've had the best grades of my entire high school career!! (All A's except honors English....C+) whatever.. okay well my mom's yelling at me... we're painting my room... yay! I've had the same paint job since I was three... so this is a big thing for me.. I really liked the baby pink walls with the stenciled picket fence.....DANG! Haha, okay well I'll talk to you later! Keep in touch!! (I tried sending this to your email, but it kept getting sent back to me... so i thought this might be the only way. just email me at beachbabexax@aol.com to reply and that will start a new thread)
